Basic Sailing Lessons - Learn to Sail

The SEAS Bergen Basic Sailing Courses are taught by SEAS certified instructors, following the American Sailing Association (ASA) basic sailing standard, and are intended to teach the basics of sailing to those who have never been on a sailboat as well as those with some experience.
Curriculum
The basic sailing course consists of at least 8 hours of classroom instruction in which you will learn:
Sailing terms
Points of sail
Sail trim
Launching
Mooring
Rules of the road
Boating safety.

Four two-hour evening classroom sessions
Two six-hour days of on-the-water instruction, providing hands-on sailing experience at Woodland Lake in Pequannock, NJ
Free year of membership in SEAS Bergen chapter ($80 value) entitles you to additional learning opportunities, open practice sails, and social events.

All graduates will gain the confidence, experience, and knowledge needed to sail a boat safely.
Participants must be in good physical condition and able to swim.
Schedule
Basic Sailing Classroom Sessions:
Classroom sessions are Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 7:00 to 9:00 pm.

On-the-Water Instruction Sessions
Water sessions are conducted at Woodland Lake in Pequannock Township, NJ.
Sessions are usually on Saturdays, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
In the event of inclement weather, water sessions may be postponed until the next available day.

Successful completion of the course earns you the SEAS Basic Sailing Certification. In addition to the training, you will also get a one year membership to SEAS Bergen Chapter ($80 value).

Open sails are available at Greenwood Lake on our 19' O'Day or the Hudson River on our 27’ Catalina.
