About the Zephyr
Docked at Safe Harbor Haverstraw Marina on the Hudson River, the Zephyr is the largest sailboat in the SEAS Bergen fleet. With a production run of more than 20 years and over 6,600 boats produced, the Catalina 27 surely ranks as the most popular cruising sailboat built to date. With its fixed keel, pedestal mounted wheel, inboard diesel engine, large salon & roomy cockpit, the Zephyr is simply a pleasure to sail.
SEAS offers open sails, keelboat courses, 7 day & 5 day a week online reservation passes and plenty of qualified skippers who thoroughly enjoy sailing with both experienced sailors and "never been on a boat before" crew. The long Hudson sailing season starts in May and lasts till November. We sail over a 20-mile stretch of the Hudson River between the Tappan Zee and Bear Mountain bridges. The spectacular coastline views, the steady winds and the wide variety of both commercial and leisure traffic on the Hudson always make sailing on the Zephyr FUN!
Our 27' Catalina is the ideal step up for SEAS basic sailing students and our O'Day 19' sailors wanting to learn and enjoy a bigger boat on a larger body of water!

Keelboat SKIPPER PASSES
Zephyr Skipper passes are available on 2 levels. Click here to download the membership form. See the form for details regarding special pricing for additional skippers of the same family. To qualify, new skippers should complete the 2-day Keelboat Course on skippering and maintaining the Zephyr and sail with us for a season. All skippers must hold a NJ or NY state boating safety certificate (or equivalent) and must complete an annual pre-season checkout at the helm.

Reservations
Only paid-up K5 or K7 skipper pass holders will be able to add their reservations to the calendar. We are on the honor system, so while you may add your own reservations, you must follow the rules about advance reservations:
K7 members may reserve up to two days at one time, one of which may be on a weekend or holiday.
K5 members may reserve up to two weekdays at one time. Holidays are not available to K5 members.
Only pass-holding qualified skippers may take out the boat. If you are interested in qualifying to become a Zephyr skipper, you can reserve a spot in the Keelboat 2-Day Course.
Open Sails
Skipper pass holders are expected to hold regular open sails to give other club members an opportunity to sail on the Zephyr. Weekday open sails are pre-scheduled in the calendar as placeholders. Skippers are encouraged to take charge of these, adjust the dates and times as needed, and announce them on the Zephyr Sailors mailing list (see below to join the list). These do not count toward your quota of two open reservations.
Donations
Members who enjoy sailing on the Zephyr are encouraged to make a donation to help cover costs of operation, maintenance, docking and storage. Suggested donation for active sailors is $150/year.
Keelboat committee
The Keelboat Committee meetings are open to anyone interested in the Zephyr, and are held once a month from March thru November. Meeting dates are shown on the SEAS Bergen Keelboat Google Calendar - typically the first Tuesday of the month at 7:00 PM. The committee is responsible for maintenance, education programs and budget of the Zephyr, as well as planning the annual Spring Splash and Fall Frolic dock party / sailing events.

To add a reservation, click on the + Google Calendar button on the bottom right of the calendar. You may have to login with your Google account. This will add the Keelboat calendar to your own Google Calendar view in your browser or mobile calendar app. When adding a reservation, make sure the SEAS Bergen Keelboat calendar is selected, in case you have more than one.
